The 2005 Reserve Cabernet is a wine to be considered – vino da meditazione as the Italian’s might call it!
We had this bottle with a simple dinner of sausages, steamed greens and mashed potato and the wine was the perfect accompaniment for this comfort-food meal on a cold winter’s night.
It’s dark in colour with little development and still smells super-fresh – like a 5-10 year old wine. The varietal characteristics are still very much intact, with blackcurrant fruit and fresh tobacco aromas dominant along with a little cherry. Impressive.
The palate is very full-bodied and deeply-flavoured – once again remarkably fresh – and shows beautiful balance. It comes from a vintage with lots of sunshine yet retains great freshness and life. Astonishing really. Drink now, or if you have good cellaring conditions and get a good cork, it will live for many more years.
