Tasted: A lovely Chateauneuf

The first bottle we opened a few nights ago was, unfortunately, corked. Still, it was clear the wine was spectacular and thankfully we had a second bottle on hand, so we were able to give it another try.

On pouring, a healthy red colour is accompanied by a lovely nose displaying herbal notes (‘garrigue’ in French) layered over deep-set ripe plum and spice, with a hint of licorice. Very nice.

The palate delivers great intensity of flavour. It’s full-bodied, very composed and balanced, with fresh, firm tannins that stretch out the finish. Richly concentrated yet refined—there’s both power and grace here.

It’s a wine you can enjoy now with real pleasure or lay down confidently for 10+ years – it will shine at any point in its evolution.

If all wine were this good, more people would undoubtedly drink wine more often. Uplifting!

2020 Domaine Charvin CndP we purchased direct from the importer – Vintage and Vine but retail online is approximately $150.
