Friday nights are pizza nights at our place, and tonight we’ve opted for takeaway from Pizzateca. To mark the occasion—and to celebrate the rain—we opened a bottle of Champagne. We’ve recorded 8mm in the gauge today, the most rain we’ve had since last November. After months of looking out at a brown landscape and parched vineyards, the rain brings a real sense of relief. It finally feels like the season might be turning.
We chose a rosé from Colin – one of our favourite Champagne producers – and it’s a delight. It displays quite a deep orange-pink colour. On the nose, it’s full of biscuity, yeasty, bready and cherry nougat notes. The palate is deeply flavoured, complex and powerful, yet elegant and long, with no reliance on sweetness for balance.
It’s an excellent wine and a perfect way to celebrate the return of the rain.
